Sir Cliff: Chat to God is calming

-

STRESS: Veteran singer SIR Cliff Richard claims speaking to God helped him deal with the stress of being accused of sexually abusing boys.

The singer, 78, says he lay on his bed at his home in Portugal and turned his anger at the false allegations into forgiveness after a chat with the Lord.

Cliff was cleared over accusations made by four men of sexual assault – dating from between 1958 and 1983 – two years ago.

The committed Christian claims he barely slept and began “going crazy” after the BBC leaked the news and then filmed a police raid on his home.

He said: “I was angry at the time and frustrated and the police publicly made an apology to me.

“It was a very disturbing thing to have happen.

“For two years I never slept more than, I reckon, three hours, but probably two and half hours. You went to sleep thinking about it, you woke up thinking about it.

“But the minute I thought if I go on like this angry and vengeful, I am not going to survive it.

“Having come through it all I do feel stronger.

“I feel less afraid.”
