TIME TO BE CHOP GUN!

Matteo must have a haircut says Unai

- By DARREN LEWIS

UNAI EMERY has told Matteo Guendouzi to get his hair cut to stop opponents pulling it during matches.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who has had his afro cut, got away with tugging the Arsenal man’s locks during Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

Guendouzi said: “There was a little hint of jealously I think. He does not digest, perhaps, being short-haired.”

But Gunners boss Emery said: “I think the best thing is for the next match for Matteo to cut his hair, and this problem is finished – like Fellaini!”

Asked whether he had delivered the styling advice to the 19-year-old Frenchman, Emery added: “No, I respect the players’ hair a lot.”

The incident was clearly seen by referee Andre Marriner, who opted not to show Fellaini a yellow card after blowing for a foul.

Fellaini, himself, has been the victim of a similar offence.

The Belgian was suspended for his reaction after Leicester defender Robert Huth pulled his hair during a match in May 2016.

Huth was banned for three games over the off-the-ball incident and Fellaini was banned for elbowing Huth in retaliation.

Emery, who wants to draw a line under this week’s hair-pulling, said: “When I was a player it was the same. Today, with the cameras, all the situations happening in the 90 minutes can be seen. Some questions are for me between the players on the pitch.

“If it’s not a good action they can receive a card. On the pitch, the situation happened and it’s between the players.”

Emery fears defender Rob Holding may be out for the rest of the season with a knee injury suffered at United.

Holding is being assessed by Gunners medics ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Huddersfield and Emery said: “The first news is not good.”
