Rules sub standard

Daily Star - - FRONT PAGE - Bye, pet...

It’s the least that can be done to show gratitude for their selfless efforts. KIDS’ football teams that are taking a thrashing will be allowed to field more than 11 players.

Under new FA rules, youth sides losing by four goals can bring on an extra member of their squad.

And if they continue to concede, a 13th player will enter the fray to boost the underdogs’ chances.

The Power Play rule is meant to improve the morale of youngsters on the wrong end of a drubbing.

But coaches and parents have accused bosses of trying to mollycoddle young footballers.

They have a point.

Children need to learn how to win, but also how to lose.

How will youngsters cope with other disappointments in life if they don’t learn from an early age?

True grit comes from taking a thumping yet coming back even stronger and more resilient.

Youth team managers can choose to ignore this new rule.

Let’s hope they do, for the sake of our sportsmen and women of tomorrow. DANI Dyer and Jack Fincham are at war over their dog now they have officially split.

Their puppy love’s come to an end.
