SCROOGE ambulance bosses are forcing paramedics to hand over festive tips.

A “mystery Santa” has been pinning Christmas cards with £10 notes or vouchers for coffee and doughnuts to emergency vehicles.

The cards thank the NHS heroes for their work and tell crews they are “awesome”.

But staff have been ordered to hand in the festive bonuses because the identity of the benefactor is unknown.

And one furious worker claimed the move had hit morale and left paramedics angry.

He said: “The powers that be are behaving like Scrooge.

“This money is clearly left as a thank-you present. Our pay and working conditions have suffered in the cutbacks, so the crews thought this was a wonderful gesture by whoever it is leaving the money.

“Morale is low enough as it is and this has only made it worse.”

Ambulance bosses fear the cards, which have appeared in London and Surrey, were put up by a private business.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: “In common with other public sector organisations, we have strict rules and guidelines around the acceptance of monetary gifts.”
