THE family of an Iraq war hero who killed himself after alleged failings by the NHS have won a six-figure payout.

Aidan Knight’s relatives were also given an apology over the treatment he received.

The 29-year-old member of elite 2 Para had been trying to get help for suspected Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

He took his life near Crawley, West Sussex, shortly after he was told his mental health worker was on holiday so he would have to wait to see someone.

Aidan’s family took the Sussex Partnership NHS Trust to court using human rights laws to argue that his right to life had been taken from him. TRAGEDY: Aidan and child said: “We’ve had to wait until now for a proper apology. At least we have something for his kids who miss him.

“He saw the children regularly and they won’t now have him when they grow up.” The trust did not admit liability but apologised and agreed to pay the money to the three children Aidan had with two partners.
