CADBURY has come under fire over the cost of its £50 Christmas selection box.

The chocolate bars inside can be bought separately for less than half the price.

Outraged shoppers slammed the famous firm after it was revealed the pricey Ultimate Selection Box has less than £24 worth of choccie in it.

It holds 26 individually wrapped bars – including favourites such as Dairy Milk, Crunchy, Wispa and Flake – while weighing more than 2kg.

But buying the bars individually would cost just £23.92, according to comparison website MySupermarket.

Chocolate lovers hit out. One wrote: “Cadbury’s have been slowly burning up their customer loyalty, but this about takes the biscuit, fondant and raisin and nut centre.”

Another angry choc fan posted: “So £27 for packaging n profit, lol greedy b ****** s.” A third said: “This is so ridiculously overpriced at £50!

“You could literally purchase all of these bars in pound shops or on offer at the supermarkets.”

A Cadbury spokesman said: “After popular demand, we have made a limited number of Cadbury Ultimate Selection Boxes, containing all the top Cadbury favourites.

“The smaller production run and increased packaging costs to withhold the considerable weight of the combined products has meant higher manufacturing costs.

“This is reflected in the price.”
