I’M in Britain for six months and need a car that’ll remind me of home until I head back to the USA. What’s there for £3,000? First up, we’ve found a 2007 Cadillac SRX. A large SUV, it’s got seven leather seats, while in-car features include sat-nav, a sunroof, Bose sound system and heated front seats.

This car has also been converted to run on LPG, useful as its 4.6-litre V8 is unlikely to give any more than

20mpg. Power is 325hp, driving fourwheels via a five-speed auto box. At

£2,999, it’s done 100,00 miles. Next is a another Cadillac, a 2008 CTS. It’s done 72,000 miles and comes with a 307hp 3.5-litre V6. With claimed economy of 25mpg, it’s positively frugal compared to the SRX.

Performance is spritely, too, with

0-62mph in just 6.3s and 150mph top speed. Kit includes a glass sunroof, cruise control, rear parking sensors and sat-nav. Yours for £2,995. But if Cadillacs aren’t for you, how about a Chrysler 300C? Its bold, squared-off looks have become a common sight on UK roads over the years.

We’ve found a 2007 version with

108,000 miles, featuring a 218hp

3.0-litre turbodiesel.

With rear parking sensors, full leather upholstery, cruise control, climate control and heated front seats, it comes in, under budget, at £2,895.
