FA look to fill Glenn position

- By JEREMY CROSS

THE FA will scour the world in their search to find Martin Glenn’s replacement.

A team of headhunters has been appointed to draw up a shortlist of candidates to succeed Glenn, who yesterday announced he is stepping down as chief executive.

The £750,000-a-year position will be advertised on Monday with Glenn set to leave in May.

Glenn, who has been at the helm since 2014, will have no say in who replaces him but will remain where he is to aid the transition process.

He insists he leaves the role with English football in a much stronger position than when he took charge.

Glenn said: “I will leave feeling proud of the success of the performance of all the England teams.

“I am confident we have established, in St George’s Park, a world-class centre which will ensure the teams will continue to build on their current successes.”

The major success of his time as chief executive was the appointment of Gareth Southgate as England boss in 2016, with the team reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in Russia.

At youth level, the Under-17s and Under-20s teams both won their World Cups in 2017.

Glenn, who has had to survive a number of damaging controversies, also oversaw a revamp of English football’s fixture schedule, with a winter break set to be introduced from next season.
