Star’s dream pet causes a storm
PAUL O’Grady is in a row with neighbours over his plans to add a mongoose to his home zoo of cute pets.
He is desperate to buy one of the predatory creatures to keep unwanted pests – such as snakes – from his land.
Paul said: “I really want to get a mongoose. They don’t usually make ideal pets, but I want one and I will call it Maureen.
“I’ve asked for one every Christmas, but I know people around here aren’t too happy.
“If not, I’ll just have to get an elephant.”
But the 63-year-old’s worried neighbours can rest easy this Christmas as Britain still has to abide by the EU ban on imports of mongooses.
The mongoose is branded a risk to native species as it could escape into the countryside and wreak havoc.
But Paul’s neighbours should beware – because if Britain eventually leaves the EU, Paul’s legal problems may be lifted.
