Simply Wizzard present for Roy

-

HITMAKER: Wood CHRISTMAS has come early for seasonal star Roy Wood after his stolen instruments were found undamaged.

Police have recovered a stolen truck and handed it back to members of Roy’s band yesterday.

The musician, 72, famous for I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday with Wizzard in 1973, is set to be reunited with electric guitars dating back 50 years before his group’s next concert on Thursday.

The truck is back in the hands of sound engineer Bob Collinson, who is part of Roy’s touring party and was storing the truck in his warehouse at the time of the raid.

The Roy Wood Rock & Roll Band are scheduled to play a concert in Sheffield on Thursday.

One thief was caught on CCTV breaking into the lorry’s cab before hot-wiring the vehicle and smashing it through metal gates.

The early morning raid in Leeds forced the star to cancel a concert.

Birmingham-born Roy rose to fame in the 1970s and 80s with The Move and ELO. His Christmas song is estimated to make him around £180,000 each year in royalties.
