AN ex-Premier League star freed from jail early after killing two in a road crash has been caught drink-driving.

Former Manchester City player Courtney Meppen-Walter, 24, was more than twice the limit after a night out at a Christmas market.

He was arrested following a 3am tussle with a police patrolman in Manchester city centre.

Officers pulled their car in front of the footballer’s Kia Picanto after they saw him crash into a kerb and then stall at traffic lights.

Meppen-Walter refused to leave his car and had to be hauled out. He is said to have resisted and was pulled to the floor with the help of passers-by.

In 2013 Meppen-Walter, then

18, was jailed for 16 months after the Mercedes Elegance CDI he was “showboatin­g in” ploughed into a Nissan Micra at nearly twice the

30mph speed limit. Brother and sister Kulwant Singh and Ravel Kaur died.

The defender, of Heywood, Lancs, now playing for nonleague Chorley, appeared at Manchester Magistrate­s’ Court.

He was facing up to six more months in jail after admitting drink-driving. He will be sentenced in the new year.
