FAIR play to Tottenham. They deserved to go through in the Champions League. But let’s not get carried away.

They got a draw, against Barcelona’s reserves. Who hit the post twice. And I’m hearing people say that was the greatest European night in their history?

Come on. I can remember Spurs winning a European trophy. They got a result but they fell over the line.

And who would they beat in the last 16? Okay, plenty of other teams won’t want to play against them.

But over two legs, you’d back Manchester United to get through against a big heavyweight more than you would Spurs.

They just have too many of those spells in a game when it all falls apart. It just keeps happening to them in big games. It’s a mental thing.

I’ll say one thing though. Christian Eriksen was immense against Barcelona.

Some of his passing was the best I’ve seen in a long time. I’d be shocked if he wasn’t at Barcelona or Real Madrid next season.

He would fit right in at either of those clubs and his contract is up soon.

That’s the problem for Spurs. How do they take the next step?

And if they don’t, when does this team they’ve built start to break up?
