Catch Roo

- By DAVID ANDERSON

HARRY KANE has been tipped to match Wayne Rooney’s record-breaking success for England by his Three Lions pal James Tarkowski.

Burnley defender Tarkowski believes the Tottenham striker can emulate Rooney’s record haul of 53 England goals after banging in 20 in the first three years of his international career.

“Obviously Wayne Rooney was one of England’s greatest players,” said Tarkowski.

“Harry has some way to go, but he has time and he’s well on his way to getting close to him – he’s one of the best strikers I’ve seen in my career.”

Tarkowski must find a way to stop Kane at Wembley today, and added: “I do know his game slightly better because of our time with England, but stopping him is a different story.”

Tarkowski is fully fit after battling a hernia problem that required surgery. It meant he missed England’s last two games, but he feels he has time to impress Gareth Southgate before the next call-ups.

“I tried to play through with the injury but it got to the point where I needed to bite the bullet and get myself 100 per cent, which I am now,’’ said Tarkowski, who has two England caps.

“There’s a good break from the internationals, which is a good chance for everyone to put in some good performances so that they can be in the next England squad.”
