KEEP THE KIDS ENTERTAINED
Ways to have fun in the Christmas hols
IF YOUR kids usually climb the walls during the holidays, you might be desperately thinking of how to keep them entertained.
But it needn’t involve an expensive trip out. There’s plenty of creative things you can do at home to keep them busy.
Why not ask them to put on a talent show for the family? They can spend the morning practising songs or dances and then put on a performance in the afternoon.
Or arrange a film day - just buy some popcorn and put on a couple of favourite Christmas films.
Children love cooking so find some cheap and easy recipes you can make together. Who doesn’t love chocolate crispy cakes?
You could also build a festive den indoors. Just get some boxes or sofa cushions, cover with wrapping paper and hang any spare fairy lights over the top. Get some blankets for added cosiness.
Children will also enjoy an arts and crafts session - either buy some inexpensive supplies or use what you have at home, and get them to make Christmas decorations with wrapping paper, paint, crayons and card.
You could also come up with a fun treasure hunt - make up clues for each player (rhyming clues are extra fun), with each clue leading to the next and finally the treasure, a small Christmas present or similar.
Seal them in envelopes marked with what number clue it is out of the total, ie 2/5, to help them keep track.
If you do want to get out, just a bit of research on the internet should throw up plenty of cheap or free options for days out. Most big cities have fun winter events or markets on which tend to be free to enter - you just pay for activities.
