Belfast ace tips the scales in his favour

- By CHRIS McKENNA

CARL FRAMPTON laughed off Josh Warrington’s claims about his weight, insisting the only thing on his mind is a juicy steak.

Warrington’s team believe the Belfast fighter is struggling to make the 9st limit ahead of today’s weigh-in at Manchester Central.

The pair meet tomorrow night for the Leeds man’s IBF featherweight title but Frampton has no fears he will miss out on a shot at the belt.

Frampton, 31, didn’t make weight for his 2017 clash with Andres Gutierrez that was later cancelled when the Mexican slipped in the shower.

The former WBA featherweight champion then needed to strip naked to make the limit for his last win over Luke Jackson at Windsor Park.

But he insists there is little meat on the bone for Warrington’s claims as his only concern today is where the best spot is for a bit of grub in Manchester afterwards.

“I’m not focused on the fight now, to be honest,” said Frampton. “You’re more worried about the weigh-in and getting that done.

“I’m online looking at restaurants and where we are going to eat after the weigh-in and which steakhouse we are going to eat in.

Struggling

“That’s more of a concern at the moment.” Former unified super-bantamweight champion Frampton turned the weight taunts on his rival, who he believes will feel the pain at Manchester Arena tomorrow night after boiling down to 9st.

He said: “They can think I’m struggling if they want. I think you can flip that on its head.

“I think he is having the same problems as I have had at super-bantamweight.

“I was struggling to make the (super-bantamweight) weight.

“I know what it feels like when you are hit with a shot when you have to be so lean to be at the limit. It’s hard and they hurt, especially body shots.

“I wouldn’t say he is having problems (making weight) but look at his face when it was three weeks out from the fight and he is still pretty gaunt.

“I don’t have the same issues as him. That is why I believe I’m better now as a featherweight than I was at super-bantamweight.”

Josh Warrington v Carl Frampton is live on BT Sport Box Office.
