STAR RELIVES STREET HELL

JEREMY Clarkson had a machine-gun held to his head by a drug-addled gang member, he has revealed.

The star was ambushed in Detroit in the late 1990s and was shaken when he returned to the scene of the attack while recording The Grand Tour.

Petrolhead Jeremy said: “I was there in 1997 and somebody held a gun against my head.

“It’s a long, complicated story but we were trying to do some filming and some people thought we were trespassing on their turf. But it was pretty nasty.

“And this time, 100 yards from where that happened, I was having dumplings in a goose broth.”

A source revealed: “Jeremy was filming Top Gear in a ruined 18-storey railway station.

“He was warned by cops not to go inside as there were warring gang factions operating.

“But he ignored the advice and was surrounded by gangs.

“Thankfully, he talked himself out of the situation.” Jeremy added: “I think Detroit is such an interesting story.

“I’m sure if you actually lived there you wouldn’t call it interesting, you’d call it dangerous.

“But it’s got a fascinating story and now the chrome shoots of rejuvenation are growing again so you can actually eat quite well there, you can stay in a nice hotel, you can go short distances from A to B without being shot.

“It’s quite a serious change. It was a fantastic place to film. We’re going to kick the series off with Detroit because the American muscle cars are great.” In the first episode of the Amazon Prime Video series on January 18, Jeremy, Richard Hammond and James May stage a drag race on the deserted streets and perform a noise test in an old theatre.

They also find an abandoned car factory and turn it into a race track.
