Callum: Spell is crucial

- By JAMES CANDY

CALLUM PATERSON has challenged Cardiff to bounce back from their FA Cup humiliation.

Neil Warnock’s men were knocked out at League One Gillingham on Saturday and now face a crunch Premier League clash at home to bottom side Huddersfield at the weekend.

Cardiff are eight points clear of the Terriers and Paterson knows the next month is huge for his team’s survival hopes.

The makeshift striker – who is Cardiff ’s top scorer with four goals this season – said: “It’s a big month ahead for us.

“Every game is crucial and there are no easy matches, but these are more achievable games for us.

“We have to look at this period as one where we can take a lot of points.

Relaxed

“Hopefully we can start off this block with a win. The manager is relaxed, like always.

“He knows there is a run of big games coming up, but we’ll be looking to take as many points from them as possible.”

Paterson joined Cardiff as a defender but has been converted into a forward by Warnock as the veteran boss has desperately searched for goals.

Huddersfield have lost their last nine games while four of Cardiff ’s five top-flight wins so far this season have come at home.

Paterson said: “The mood in the camp is positive. We’re out of the bottom three and we don’t want to be any lower.

“We can get results in this league. It’s a bit different when we play the top six clubs.

“But it’s nice to know we can do something and we want to keep it going.”
