There’s NO Silva lining

MARCO HIT BY CASH BLOW

- By CHRIS McKENNA

MARCO SILVA has been told there are no plans to boost his Everton squad with new signings this month.

Director of football Marcel Brands admits he does not expect the club to be busy in the transfer window.

Silva’s side are struggling to find consistency in his first season in charge and currently sit 11th in the Premier League table.

But the club will not panic buy this month in a bid to turn their campaign around after splashing out almost £90m in the summer, with the focus on the next window at the end of the season instead. Brands said: “We don’t have big plans.

“I think it is a very difficult period to bring new players in. There is no time to adapt.

“We don’t want to let our best players go, so other clubs don’t also.

Warned

“We always look to do something if there is something necessary.

“We don’t know what will happen with some of our players – if we sell someone or give players on loan.

“If we sell or loan other players maybe we have to look for replacements. I am not focusing 100 per cent on bringing in new players. That is for the summer.”

Brands warned the club needed to be more shrewd with its spending in the future.

The Toffees have splashed out more than £300m since Farhad Moshiri took control in February 2016 but they have yet to come close to breaking into the top four in the Premier League.

Brands added: “I think that it is very important that if we do something we have to do it good because if we spend money on the wrong thing it is difficult to offload players because of the wages in England.”
