BIRTHDAY TERROR

Armed yobs burst in as children ate cake

- By MARK CHANDLER news@dailystar.co.uk

A DAD has described the terrifying moment bungling armed robbers gate-crashed his son’s 10th birthday party by mistake.

Pals had just sung Happy Birthday when a gang of three thugs burst through the back door, apparently thinking it was a drug den.

The dad, 55, said they rushed into the living room, where children were sitting on the sofa eating cake.

He said: “At first we thought it was a joke or something, we just didn’t process it. We had just sung Happy Birthday and blown out the candles. They were all sat here eating on the sofa in a little row.”

And when the gang demanded drugs and cash, the perplexed parents replied: “What are you on about? There’s nothing here.”

The father added: “This was a kids’ party and they didn’t care – they just carried on.” He described the trio as black, with two around 6ft tall and another standing at just 5ft 5ins. One brandished a knife with a black, serrated blade.

And the mum, 37, added: “My husband said to phone the police so I got my phone but the little one snatched it out of my hand. He was really vicious.”

The men pushed her into her husband at their home in the Catton Grove area of Norwich and they both “went flying”, she added.

“They did seem unsure of themselves,” added the dad. “The big one ran out and I said to the others: ‘Get out, you’ve got the wrong address’.

“The little one wouldn’t leave so I pushed him out of the back door, but he had his arm still inside with the blade trying to slice me. We’re lucky that nobody got stabbed or hurt.”

The couple said the children were left in tears and felt traumatised after the attack.

Last night police were trawling through CCTV in an attempt to find the suspects.
