Lad in £2,146 runner

-

A SKINT student necked a £1,750 bottle of vintage wine at the Savoy to celebrate his birthday before doing a runner.

Sozzled Yahya Egeh was given £20 by his mum for a meal but decided to indulge himself after being stood up by a woman.

He decided to drown his sorrows by ordering a bottle of 2004 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Westminster magistrates heard.

When the £2,146.50 bill arrived, Egeh ran off but was grabbed by security.

Egeh had pleaded guilty at a previous hearing.

District Judge Anthony Woodcock said it was a “serious offence” in that he had ordered a bottle of wine “well beyond the means” of most people.

He was given a 12-month community order with 60 hours of community service unpaid.

Egeh, of Harlesden, north west London, has to pay the bill by May 11.
