Plastic removal

-

A SUPERMARKET chain has removed more than 1,300 tonnes of black plastic from its own-brand products in the past year.

Waitrose says it has hit its target to remove it from hundreds of products.

The majority of black plastic packaging is coloured with carbon black pigments, which means it cannot be easily sorted in most recycling systems.

As a result, it commonly ends up being disposed of in landfill.
