McNeil’s enjoying big brek
DWIGHT McNEIL still enjoys having breakfast at the Burnley training ground with the Under-23 team he has left behind.
At Turf Moor he had struggling Fulham for toast as Sean Dyche’s side continued their climb away from the relegation zone with a third straight Premier League win.
McNeil, 19, (above) was watched by England Under-21 coach Aidy Boothroyd, who is considering calling the former Manchester United academy player into his next squad.
But his recent promotion to the first-team squad and a possible international call-up do not phase the grounded teenager.
He said: “I still go in with the Under-23s for breakfast. They were my team at the start of the season.
“The first team have the same breakfast but they are half an hour after us so I get in early.”
The son of Matty McNeil, a professional for lower league sides which included Stockport, Macclesfield and Chester, the winger would love to follow in the footsteps of his idol Ryan Giggs.
He added: “He was the one I looked up to when I was at Manchester United.
“I am trying to model my game on him but still have a lot to improve. Right now it’s about holding onto the first-team shirt.”
