Nuclear alerts at sub HQ

THERE have been more than 789 safety alerts at Scotland’s nuclear bases at Faslane and Coulport in the past 12 years.

Defence Minister Stuart Andrew revealed the figures in letters to SNP MP Deidre Brock.

Earlier the MoD disclosed 505 incidents had taken place at Faslane, where the UK’s nuclear submarine fleet is based.

A further letter shows 284 incidents at Coulport, where warheads are stored.
