Roy fired up for Forest

- By DAVE ARMITAGE

ROY KEANE admitted it was good to be back at Nottingham Forest after being reunited with Martin O’Neill.

The 47-year-old former Forest midfielder, who watched their win against Wigan on Saturday, has finally taken up O’Neill’s offer to be his No.2 at the City Ground.

Now the Manchester United legend is hell-bent on helping his former Republic of Ireland boss end Forest’s 20-year exile from the Premier League.

Keane said: “It is good to be back and it will probably take a couple of days to get back in the swing of things.

“Obviously, I had great memories of my career here as a player.

“The club gave me my chance and I will always remember them for that.” Keane cost Forest just £47,000 when he joined them from Cobh Ramblers in 1990 before moving to Old Trafford three years later for £3.75m to replace Bryan Robson.

Keane added: “It is nice to get the deal done and get involved this morning with the first session.

“It is a big challenge and I am ready for it. But it is a different challenge now and I am in a different position coaching the players.

“When Martin got the job and gave me a shout, I thought that once a few things fell into place I’d be ready for it. We will give it a good go, I have huge respect for Martin and the club and it fell into place nicely.”
