IT’S dawning on me that my girlfriend lives in a world of her own.

She makes up stuff all the time.

Problems at work? It’s all her bosses’ fault and nothing to do with her. Rows with mates over money or gossip? It’s all them.

It’s got to the point where I don’t know what to believe. She constantly lies about family, qualifications and her job.

Recently, I sat and listened to her tell my uncle about the degree she has in maths and the job she once had with a major bank. I was agog because it was complete rubbish.

Another time, she told my cousin she is a champion water skier and scuba diver, but she’s never tried either. Yet if I dare to call her out, she either denies it all or accuses me of being unsupportive and mean. Just what is her problem?

JANE SAYS: I suspect we are all guilty of “bigging ourselves up” to an extent, but she is kidding no-one.

People aren’t stupid

– I bet most folk can see right through her. The more you facilitate her storytelling, the more she will think she can get away with any old nonsense.

Level with her. Tell her you know what she’s up to and it’s pathetic. Suggest she grows up and starts behaving like an adult – she can’t pretend to be something she’s not.

What about your own credibility? I can’t believe you want people to think that you’re a fantasist too.
