Hair-raiser Scott faces up to success

- By TONY BANKS

AFC WIMBLEDON star Scott Wagstaff delivered on his FA Cup promise last night – and dyed his beard in the club colours of yellow and blue.

The midfielder pledged he would colour his facial hair if the Dons beat West Ham in the last round, which they did 4-2 in one of the major shocks of this year’s competition.

Wagstaff, who netted twice against the Hammers, had his beard coloured by barber Justin ‘Just Cutz’ Carr at Kingsmeadow before his side face Millwall in the fifth round tomorrow.

He said: “My wife is going to be fuming. But she knew it was coming. She’s just got to get on with it. It’s just a bit of fun.”

Dons boss Wally Downes said: “This is what happens when you get excited when they put a camera in front of you. Now he’s paying the penalty.”

Wagstaff ’s effort was last night voted sexiest beard of the year by the Beard Liberation Front.

Meanwhile, Dons commercial manager Ivor Heller says his side could go all the way.

After forming, with the original being Dons uprooted to Milton Keynes, it took the club nine years to get into the Football League. It has taken another seven to get within sight of the last eight of the FA Cup.

And Heller, who has been on the journey all the way, said: “When we started off in the ninth tier all this seemed a long way off.

“But I remember saying what fun we were going to have. And what fun we have had.

“It’d be typical Wimbledon if we went out and won the FA Cup and got relegated!”
