BE VERY AFRAID OF 80MPH STORM FREYA

‘Danger to life’ after heatwave

FORECASTERS are warning of a “danger to life” as Britain is set to be battered by rain, plunging temperatures and 80mph gales.

Storm Freya will even bring snow to some areas – just days after the UK basked in the hottest February in history.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning. It says lives could be at risk from flying debris, along with damage to buildings and trees.

Road, rail, air and ferry services will feel the force of Freya, and power cuts have been predicted.

The Met Office said: “Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown on to sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.”

Wales and the north and south west of England will face the brunt of the storm tomorrow afternoon and on Monday morning.

Earlier this week temperatures hit 21.2C in Kew Gardens, west London, on the hottest British winter day in history. Now the topsy-turvy weather is turning again.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said: “By Sunday temperatures for many will be back to low double figures or even single figures in some parts.”

But a return to warmer weather is on the horizon, as experts predict sunshine will return in a fortnight.

And some believe the UK could enjoy warmer than normal conditions throughout the run-up to summer.
