CHELSEA should have gone for Brendan Rodgers and I think Leicester are lucky to have him.

He’s given up a big job at Celtic to go there and if he can get that dressing room onside, he will be a big success.

But I’m a bit shocked he’s chosen to go now. I thought he might have waited.

If Chelsea had told him to wait until the summer because there would be a job for him there, I’m sure he would have.

He is one of the best around, a phenomenal manager. I’m one of his biggest fans and I would have loved to see him at Chelsea.

People say he was only successful at Liverpool because he had Luis Suarez but even when you have world class players, you have to get a tune out of them.

Look at all the players who had the season of their lives there under him. Daniel Sturridge has never played better than that.

I just thought he might have waited. He wouldn’t have faced such a backlash from Celtic fans then either.

Chelsea can’t buy players any more. Okay they will probably get their transfer ban delayed on appeal, but how much money is the owner willing to spend?

They have to give the kids a chance and they have some fantastic young players like Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

And there is no better manager at working with young players than Rodgers.

He would have been perfect. He was even there as a youth coach himself at the beginning of his career.

He ticks all the boxes for Chelsea and I think they’ve missed a trick not going for him. They need a manager who has been
