ROCKY’S A KNOCKOUT
Kim’s Donny Treasure hunt
ROCKY’S TREASURE tops the betting for today’s big race, the Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster (3.35).
Kim Bailey’s runner was an impressive course winner on his penultimate start then chased home Ok Corral at Warwick last time which is good form.
He is a worthy favourite with Unibet and punters believe he can emulate The Last Samuri who bagged this race when trained by Bailey in 2016.
But in a typically competitive handicap, we have also seen cash for Alan King’s Dingo Dollar who has excellent course form.
Fergal O’Brien’s Barney Dwan has been subject to plenty of interest too.
Looking Well has been doing well and looked good last time but a 6lbs rise will not make things easy.
Who’s My Jockey came third at Kempton on Boxing Day and punters think he is the one to catch in the opening Handicap Hurdle (1.50).
Popular
Just 2lbs higher today, Philip Hobbs’ runner will be suited by the step back up in trip.
We have kept him on side at 4-1 in a race where Jersey Bean has also been popular at 7-1.
Danse Idol is odds-on in the Listed Mares’ Hurdle (3.00) but Irish raider Hidden Dilemma can not be ignored.
Down at Newbury, War Sound is attracting plenty of good money in the Handicap Chase (2.40) at 5-1.
But, in a competitive 16 runner affair where Unibet will be paying five places, the each-way cash has been for Valdez (12-1) who is coming down the weights and was not disgraced at last time out at Ascot.
Dolos, under 5lbs claimer Lorcan Williams, is effectively only 1lb higher in the weights after his Sandown success two weeks ago and he rates a big threat to the jolly at 8-1.
Abolitionist has been the mover all week and is a very strong 7-2 favourite in the Veterans Chase (2.05).
Kelso stages a cracking card and Getaway Trump travels from Paul Nicholls’ stable in Somerset to contest the G2 Novice (3.15).
There seems little opposition to the even money favourite although, after his fine second behind leading Supreme fancy Mister Fisher, Rouge Vif should not be far away at 7-2 under Gavin Sheehan.
Black Corton and One For Arthur go head-to-head in the Listed Chase (2.45) but it is the latter who we have seen most interest in after a gallant defeat at Ascot.
