tickets. If it’s me as a supporter or manager, I don’t know, but they should buy their season tickets because the club is going somewhere.”

Asked if it was odd to be asked to do the promotional work for next season considering United insist no announcement will be made until the summer, Solskjaer added: “It would be stranger to see yourself in the video if you’re not here.

“But, no, its not strange doing it. If my kids see a commercial with me in it and I’m back home in Norway that’ll be strange probably.

“That’s just part of being here, the commercial, part of being a player here as well.”

Solskjaer also revealed he has had talks with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward about summer transfer activity.

He said: “We did that before I’d won two or three games and all this talk about if I should stay or not.

“My contract is up in the summer but I still, as I’ve always done for United, give my 100 per cent and my best. You have to plan.

“Everyone knows I’d like to stay, of course, but that’s not decided until the end of the season.”

It is understood Old Trafford bosses have made no contact with other candidates and have been impressed with Solskjaer’s impact.

United face Southampton today with the current boss determined to lead his side to a third place finish above Spurs.

Solskjaer believes overtaking Mauricio Pochettino, his big rival for the job, would be a huge statement, saying: “Of course the results have meant that we can challenge Tottenham now for that spot.

“It’s us, Chelsea, Arsenal, we’re all chasing them. It’s going to be an exciting race and every single game is going to be important.

“As I’ve said before, we’re five points behind Tottenham and there’s 10 games to go.

“We’ve definitely got a chance to move up the table – so we’ll do our best to get up there.”

Solskjaer confirmed that former skipper Antonio Valencia appears set to leave.

The 33-year-old has managed just eight appearances this season and a calf injury has restricted him to just one start under Solskjaer.

“He’s still not 100 per cent fit,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s had a fantastic career at Man United. But at the moment I’m not sure if Man United and Antonio will agree on the next year.”
