A PAIR of drunken teenagers went to buy a McDonald’s at Gatwick Airport – and woke up in Barcelona.

Tara Hammersley and Jack Messer, both 19, got the munchies after a night out in Crawley and went to the nearby airport.

But once there, retail worker Jack decided to book flights to the cheapest destination they could find.

They settled on the Catalan capital and despite only having the clothes they were standing in spent four days there before flying back home.

Tara, who studies psychology at Nottingham Trent University, said she cannot remember booking the escapade and woke up as they landed in Spain.

She said: “We nearly went to Morocco. I don’t remember this but Jack filled me in – the last thing I remember was being sick in the club toilets.

“Jack remembers booking the flights but can’t remember anything after that. “When I woke up on the flight I had no idea where I was. My initial thought was I had died and was on my way to heaven. “After asking Jack multiple times where we are, he finally remembered we were going to Barcelona.”

The pals used Jack’s card to buy clothes and food, and booked in at a hostel. Tara added: “We spent most of the time chilling out on the beach and drinking at night. All in all we had a good holiday, although I’m hoping that this doesn’t happen again – my mum has confiscated my passport since!”
