Racist in car attack caged
MOSQUE TERROR: Stokes A MAN who shouted racist abuse before driving at worshippers leaving a mosque has been jailed.
Martin Stokes’ attack left three people injured.
The 25-year-old had been drinking with others while parked in a car near the mosque in Cricklewood, north-west London.
He then shouted racist abuse before driving his car into a group of people as they walked away.
Stokes of Wembley, north-west London, admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and a religiously aggravated offence.
He was jailed for five years at Harrow Crown Court, north-west London, and also banned from driving for seven and a half years.
Det Sgt Kelly Schonhage said: “Stokes drove his car at innocent pedestrians and had no regard whatsoever for their safety.
“It is very fortunate that no lives were lost.”
Javid Rana, chairman of the Association of Muslim Police, said: “This prosecution sends a clear message that the Metropolitan Police Service does not tolerate hate crime.”
