Dramatic finale has echoes of Nou Camp

that had outclassed United 2-0 in the first leg at Old Trafford last month and home fans poured into the Parc des Princes expecting more of the same.

But they were dumbstruck inside the opening two minutes when United scored with their first attack of the game.

PSG defender Thilo Kehrer was to blame for the French side falling behind after wunderhitting a backpass and allowing Lukaku to hold off another challenge, round Gianluigi Buffon and finish calmly from a tight angle.

It might have been the perfect start, but PSG were level just 10 minutes later.

Kylian Mbappe was allowed time and space on the right to pick out Juan Bernat with a perfect cross that nutmegged Chris Smalling. Bailly allowed Bernat to run straight past him and he made no mistake with a clinical finish.

United were living off scraps which Buffon provided in the 30th minute spilling Marcus Rashford’s shot into the path of Lukaku, who tapped in to make it 2-1.

The game was balanced on a knife edge, and in the end Solskjaer had to settle for a favour from VAR and when the final whistle blew United invaded the pitch to celebrate.
