10 DAILY STAR, Monday, March 18, 2019 JUBILANT Tuna Kunt has been elected president of her students’ union – and says her unusual name was a real vote winner.

The law student romped to victory, winning 1,409 votes to closest rival Nazia Bharde’s 901.

And while her pledges to work towards “equality, diversity and inclusion” impressed some, many backed her after being tickled by her name.

The 23-year-old, originally from Turkey, landed the £23,000-a-year job at London’s City University.

She said in her victory speech: “Thank you so much for taking part in our democratic process. I’m very happy to be part of this organisation and it’s been an amazing experience for me.” She tweeted earlier: “Follow me while I try to maintain my cool/elegance/ humour while replying to Tuna Kunt jokes.

“Thank you for laughing at my name – its been an amazing ice-breaker and conversation starter!”

Fellow students were delighted by Tuna’s win. One said: “Our new president is called Tuna Kunt! All hail our new leader!”

Another said: “It’s her name and she’s not going to change it because a bunch of adolescents will giggle when they hear it. “I’m guessing her name got her noticed, and that can only mean more votes – all hail Tuna Kunt!” VICTORY: Happy student
