WES JOY AT BRENDAN NOD

-

VETERAN defender Wes Morgan thought Brendan Rodgers might not want him to be part of his Foxes revolution.

Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans are Leicester’s preferred centre-half pairing and Morgan, 35, was unsure if he fitted into the new manager’s vision for the Foxes.

Yet Rodgers will offer his club captain a 12-month contract extension to keep him at the King Power Stadium when his current deal expires in June, as he values Morgan’s experience as Leicester’s second longestserving player.

And the centre-back is delighted to be wanted because he feels the Foxes have a bright future under the former Celtic boss.

“He spoke to me and he likes experienced players,” he said. “I’ve been at the club a long time, and he made it clear he wants me around. I’m on the gaffer’s side!

“He’s got a style and identity of how he wants things to work. It will take time but we’ll get there and be a force to be reckoned with.”

Rodgers (inset) feels keeping Morgan is a no-brainer because he remains such a key figure in the dressing room.

“He’s someone I feel is very important to the squad,” said the Leicester boss.

“He won’t play as much but his influence in the changing room is very good.”

Morgan underlined Rodgers’ point by heading home a 90th-minute winner for the 10-man Foxes.

He came on when Harry Maguire was red-carded inside four minutes for fouling Johann Berg Gudmundsson when he was through on goal and played his part in Leicester’s heroic win.

“It was a fantastic feeling, to score at the end, but, yeah, a strange start,” he said. “I’d settled down on the bench, looking forward to watching the game, and then I was straight on after four minutes.

“I’ve scored a few goals and that’s definitely in the top three, given we had 10 men and were at Burnley.”
