CORONATION STREET’s Carla did a first-rate job in Friday night’s episode, managing to fall out with about 80 per cent of Weatherfield’s population in less than an hour. I’m fairly sure that’s a record.

It was the sort of scenario soaps normally like to present us with just before a character gets bumped off, ensuring there’s a generous selection of suspects for us to consider.

But not this time. Not quite. No, tonight’s episode (7.30pm & 8.30pm, ITV) is the one where the roof of Carla’s silly knicker factory finally collapses, so this time the question will be: who’s to blame? And it’s a particularly relevant one, bearing in mind there’s going to be at least one death.

One of those with a grudge against the Underworld boss may have engineered this tragedy by way of revenge. Or it could be an insurance job. Or it could just be a terrible accident.

Naah, let’s be real, it’s not going to be that last one, is it..? WHEN it comes to advisable goal celebrations, you’d struggle to beat Robbie Fowler’s goal-line-sniffing stunt of 20 seasons, which got him banned for four games. He talks about it during tonight’s football documentary,

(9pm, ITV) chatting with fellow ex-pros David Seaman and Paul Merson.

The latter had a major and much publicised coke habit, but Fowler stresses he’s never once touched the stuff. That celebration, he tells Merson, was his way of responding to the false rumours.

“Oh, what, to say you’re NOT doing it?” replies a baffled Merson. “That was a good idea, weren’t it..?”
