SURGING demand for its famous vegan sausage rolls has helped Greggs up its profits by a whopping 11.1%.

The popular bakery also saw shares rocket 12% as customers snapped up the new snack.

These figures were hailed as “much higher than expected” and vegan sausage rolls were so popular with the public that the chain even ran out, with demand massively outstripping supply. Greggs, which has nearly 2,000 shops across the UK, now reckons sales are set to smash forecasts for the rest of the year.

The surprise success comes despite strong trading in 2018.

In an business update, Greggs said: “We now anticipate higher sales for 2019 as a whole than we had previously been expecting.”
