MICHAEL Barrymore should be “given an Oscar” for his “performance” on Piers Morgan’s chat show, according to the dad of the man who died in his swimming pool.

In a scathing attack ahead of the entertainer’s appearance on ITV tonight, Stuart Lubbock’s father Terry urged viewers to tune in to see for themselves “what a good actor Barrymore is”.

On the show Barrymore, 67, will say he “couldn’t be more sorry” for Stuart’s death in March 2001 at his mansion while insisting he is “100% innocent”.

The king of 1990s TV entertainment was arrested and quizzed by detectives on suspicion of the rape and murder of Stuart, but never charged.

Before tonight’s Piers Morgan programme, furious Terry, 74, said: “This is the Barrymore comeback show and I urge you all to watch it.

“I want you all to see what a good actor he is. He’s an outstanding actor who deserves an Oscar for his performance.

“He’s talking a lot of nonsense.

Bad

“He even says I got on with him and told him he might come back on the telly but that’s rubbish.”

Stuart died, aged 31, and was found dead in Barrymore’s swimming pool at his mansion in Roydon, Essex.

The telly star told Morgan about how he felt suicidal when his career crashed following Stuart’s death.

He also insisted how Terry had always been nice to him on the occasions when they had met.

But Terry, who now lives in a care home after suffering failing health, said: “This is typical Barrymore, just talking about how bad things have been for him.

“But at least he’s still got his life – my son’s life was taken away while he was still young.”

Dad-of-two Stuart was found with Class A drugs in his system and severe injuries consistent with sexual assault.

Terry says he is determined to keep fighting for justice for his son.

He said: “I will fight with all my strength. The bottom line is that I will take as long as it takes for me to get that justice so that Stuart can rest in peace.”
