FURY’S THE GREAT ONE

-

TYSON FURY didn’t even have to throw a punch last weekend and his position as king of the heavyweight division was solidified.

I’ve said it since he beat Wladimir Klitschko that he is the No.1 in the division.

And Anthony Joshua getting taken apart by Andy Ruiz Jnr only further proved my point.

Fury (below) is the man who took the titles from Klitschko before they were broken up.

Then after two years out of the ring, he came back to face feared puncher Deontay Wilder for the WBC belt.

Everybody knows the ‘Gypsy King’ should have got the decision against the ‘Bronze Bomber’ too.

So Ring Magazine were right to return him to his throne as they put him back as the

No.1 in the division this week.

Joshua’s claim to that seat totally vanished as he was taken apart by Ruiz Jnr last weekend.

That wasn’t a fluke one-punch knockout, it was a destruction job in New York. Joshua caught the ■

Interview by CHRIS McKENNA Mexican-American with a great left hook in the third but he got up, brushed himself off and then went to work on the British star.

For the next few rounds, Ruiz Jnr was in total control as he exposed Joshua’s poor defence.

That is something he needs to improve for the rematch, but he hasn’t worked on it at all since he turned pro as it is a weakness I spotted from his early days.

Joshua had nowhere to go but face Ruiz Jnr again as nobody would buy into him fighting anybody else and there would be a long queue looking to take on the Mexican-American, who now holds the WBA, WBO and IBF belts.

Next weekend the attention turns back to Fury and he is out preparing in Las Vegas to make sure he doesn’t suffer an upset against Tom Schwarz.

He is taking the unbeaten German seriously and he is refusing to entertain talk of a rematch with Wilder until he gets the job done.
