Family up my Street

Star’s dodgy joke about young love

- ■ by RUTH McKEE

FORMER Coronation Street actor Chris Quinten, 61, horrified telly viewers when he told his 21-year-old fiancée that he is old enough to be her grandfather.

The actor appeared on This Morning with exotic dancer Robyn Delabarre to discuss their unlikely romance.

When she revealed that her mum was 38 and her dad was 40, Chris joked: “I could be her grandad.”

And Robyn, who met him in the west London strip club where they both worked, admitted the 40-year age gap made things awkward. She said: “The family found it really difficult at first. But now they’re so supportive of me. The age gap is a big thing.”

But Chris brushed off the family feud over their relationship.

He said: “I’ve spoken to the mum and they all love me, thankfully.

Begged

“We haven’t spoken to dad yet but he’s OK.”

Chris, who played Brian Tilsley in Corrie between 1978 and 1989, proposed after pretending he was about to perform a saucy striptease for her birthday.

Robyn had begged him to book a stripper for her 21st birthday bash but rather than hire one of their colleagues, the former actor had vowed to do it himself.

But just after Chris unbuttoned his shirt, he got down on one knee.

The husband-to-be said: “Everyone thought I was doing a strip and that’s when I popped the question.”

But some viewers were disgusted by the age gap.

One fumed: “He could be her f***ing grandad.

“Her mum is 38 and her dad is 40. Did I hear right?”

Another wrote: “I could be her grandad… he says with a smile on his face. Nothing to be proud of.”
