A HOL LOT OF CRIME
BEACH-GOERS feared a shark may be prowling the coast after a swordfish was washed up with a chunk taken out of it.
The 8ft-long fish was found by Graham Parker on Berrow Beach, Somerset, during a walk with his family.
He said: “I saw there was a bite mark on it and thought something bigger had had a go at it.
“It is not something you come across every day, an 8ft-long swordfish on Berrow beach. It was quite a surprise for us to see it. “You could see where it had been thrashing about as the tide went out.” Dr Benjamin Ciotti, lecturer in Marine Biology at Plymouth University, said: “The chunk missing from the belly could have been taken by a large predator, such as a blue shark, or it could simply be due to decomposition.”
But Rob Deaville, Project Manager of UK Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme, believed the missing flesh was due to “scavenger action, either marine or terrestrial”. BRITS in Magaluf are being threatened by gangs of ruthless young robbers.
Local worker Wesley Gosine filmed a sevenstrong group as they stole belongings from holidaymakers on the beach at the Spanish resort.
And he said: “This is a joke now. Spanish teens are robbing tourists left, right and centre.”
