Baggies in Barca bust-up over Barry

- ■ by JAMES NURSEY

WEST BROM are raging after Barcelona announced the signing of their starlet Louie Barry.

But Championship club Albion and the FA are yet to ratify the move, which means the 16-year-old striker cannot yet play for the Spanish champions.

The Baggies accept the move is inevitable, but are furious that they are entitled to just £235,000 in compensation – FIFA’s flat rate for payments to overseas clubs for young players.

Barry was offered a three-year contract at The Hawthorns but turned down the one-year scholarship followed by a two-year professional deal.

Paris St-Germain and RB Leipzig were also keen.

PSG offered him a fiveyear deal but Barry has opted for Spanish champions Barcelona on a three-year contract.

Barry, who has been in West Brom’s academy since the age of six, hit the headlines last year when he scored 10 goals in five games for England Under-15s in Italy.

He also won the Golden Boot in November at the Val-de-Marne tournament, won by England Under-16s.

Forward Morgan Rogers, 16, has also left Albion after Manchester City agreed a fee of up to £6m.
