Tech magic finds son 18 yrs on
NEW FaceApp-style ageing software which led to a kidnapped toddler being reunited with his parents after 18 years could be used to help find Madeleine McCann.
Police are set to examine the technology which helped locate a snatched boy in China.
Yu Weifing, 21, did not even know he had been abducted in 2001 when he was three.
The software took two months sifting through the candidates before unearthing Yu who had been given the family name Li.
At first, the student refused to believe he was a kidnap victim until forensic tests matched his DNA to his parents. Yesterday his dad Yu Snr and mum Rong broke down in tears as they were finally reunited with him.
Yu Snr said: “We’re also very grateful to his foster parents for raising him for 18 years.”
Madeleine vanished from her family’s holiday apartment in Portugal on May 3, 2007, while Yu disappeared on May 6, 2001.
A source close to the family said: “This astonishing news from China is sure to give Kate and Gerry fresh hope.
“There appears to be new ageprogression technology out there of an accuracy that has never been seen before which produced fabulous results. It is an exciting prospect.”
