Laura in an epic Micra journey

-

TEACHER Laura Wood is tackling a gruelling 10,000mile drive to Mongolia to raise funds after her mum’s transplanted kidney stopped working.

The route treks across 12 countries, three mountain ranges and two deserts in just 41 days.

And she has to drive it in a tiny Nissan Micra with a 1 litre engine.

Laura’s mum Lynn Wood had a kidney transplant back in 2003 but it failed a couple of years ago.

Because of other health issues she has not yet been able to get back on the waiting list for another transplant.

Money

Lynn said: “I can’t fault the care I’ve received and my daughter is doing this to show her appreciation to the St Helier Hospital Renal Unit and Kidney Research.”

Laura, 25, of Worcester Park, London, is currently heading for Prague in the Czech Republic.

She will then be driving into Romania, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Russia before reaching Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia.

Lynn said: “It will be very tough for Laura and I just hope she raises lots of money to help renal patients get the very best treatment.”

Laura faces hostile environments, remote border crossings and the constant fear of breaking down hundreds of miles from the nearest town or village.
