Baking judges whip up viewers

-

PAUL Hollywood says he and Prue Leith brace themselves for a backlash every week during Bake Off – as fans disagree over who leaves the tent.

His comments come amid controversy last night following their decision to banish Dan Chambers in the first week, rather than Jamie Finn.

Paul admitted: “When it’s on, everyone next morning is talking about what happened and invariably shouting at Prue and I for getting rid of the wrong person, whatever.”

He added: “I’m waiting for the hate to start hitting me on Twitter. They won’t go for Prue, they’ll go for me. Whenever somebody’s favourite leaves there’s always a backlash.”

While Dan’s signature fruit cake was raw in the middle, Jamie had a worse disaster with his angel slices, which only had two out of the three layers and were “rubbery”, according to Hollywood.

Jamie himself described them as “inedible”.

But last night the 20-year-old gap year student stayed in the competition despite coming last in the technical challenge and failing to remember a vital ingredient. ● See Hot TV for a chat with ousted Dan
