Owners’ own goal
FOOTBALL clubs are the lifeblood of communities.
So what is happening now is nothing short of a disgrace.
Seeing two historic teams face going out of business on the same day was heartbreaking. And avoidable.
It is the last thing loyal Bolton and Bury fans deserve. Time and time again unsuitable people are handed the keys to their cherished institutions.
When the beautiful game is so overinflated with money, the results of their stewardships have been disastrous.
Clubs on smaller budgets need to be exceptionally well-run from the top down to keep up.
But sadly, the Trotters and the Shakers have been run into the ground through irresponsible ownership.
And by the English Football League’s inability to step in before it’s too late.
This devastating financial mismanagement can’t be allowed to continue.
Or there will be more tragic tales like these sooner rather than later.
