Time we won bit of Silva

- ■ by CHRIS McKENNA ■ by JOHN WRAGG

MARCO SILVA wants Everton to shake off their anxiety in cup competitions.

They travel to League One Lincoln tonight having not tasted success since lifting the FA Cup in 1995.

Toffees boss Silva admits the long wait for a trophy makes it more difficult.

He said: “It is up to us here to not be so anxious about playing in the Carabao Cup or FA Cup.

“If it is something normal to challenge for titles and you play to win titles every single season, then that becomes something natural.

“It is up to us to prove on the pitch that we are able to compete and challenge our opponents and to keep playing in the Carabao Cup with that ambition to go until the end and play a final.

“I don’t know if desperate is the right word, but I know the fans have a big, big desire to see Everton challenging for titles and to win something, but we have to go day by day.”

Fabian Delph is set to make his Everton debut after overcoming a groin injury picked up in pre-season.

Striker Moise Kean is set for his first start alongside Alex Iwobi.

But Jean-Philippe Gbamin will not be involved after Everton confirmed the £25m midfielder is out for at least eight weeks with a thigh injury he suffered before Friday’s 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa. (inset)
