Three new offers for troubled club

BURY Football Club have been thrown a lifeline after they were approached with three offers to save them.

The club were on the brink of extinction last night after they failed to secure their financial futures.

Both Bolton Wanderers and Bury were told by the English Football League they had until 5pm yesterday to secure their future.

Bury were clinging to the last thread of hope with three bids. But they came after the deadline. Local Labour MP Ivan Lewis called on bosses to grant a 24-hour extension, saying “an organisation was able to show proof of funds”.

Bolton saw a last-ditch deal collapse at the weekend.

And Bury’s fans were left crestfallen yesterday after a last-minute olive branch from C&N Sporting Risk fell through.

C&N, which is run by ex-Barnet caretaker manager Henry Newman and former Labour Party spin doctor Alastair Campbell’s son Rory, announced it would be pulling out support just before 4pm yesterday.

This season Bolton and Bury are in League One although both started with a 12-point deduction due to their cash worries.

Bolton fans had their hopes dashed on Saturday when administrator Paul Appleton released a statement saying that the deal with firm Football Ventures was off.

The club said in a statement: “Discussions are still ongoing.”
