Ward a Street of luck for Shayne
SECRET OF MY SOAP SUCCESS
SHAYNE Ward says he only landed his role in Coronation Street due to a mix-up over his name.
The X Factor winner was stunned when fans blitzed him with messages congratulating him on being chosen to play bad boy Callum Logan in the soap.
Shayne, 34, knew nothing about it – because the part had actually gone to actor Sean Ward, 31.
But Corrie bosses were so impressed with the hype sparked by Shayne’s rumoured appearance they offered him a role too.
He was such a hit as Aidan Connor that he won National Television, Inside
Soap and TV Choice awards. Shayne, on the show for three years, told TV’s Loose Women how his success was all down to his name. He said: “You’ll remember a bad boy in it called Callum, who the Platts killed.
“A lot of people were messaging me on social media saying, ‘congratulations on getting the role of Callum.’
“I thought, ‘I’ve got nothing to do with the show.’ Then I clicked on. “Coronation Street contacted my management and said, ‘We’d like Shayne to come and audition.’ I was like, ‘too right!’” Shayne’s character bowed out last year when he took his own life after struggling with depression.
