Rich clubs blameless

-

THE argument is raging about whether or not some of English football’s richest clubs should have stepped in to save Bury from extinction.

Manchester United and City, to name but two, are both rolling in cash and lie within 15 miles of the Shakers.

United have shelled out £500,000 a week in wages to Alexis Sanchez, even though he wasn’t in the team, while a couple of million quid to Sheikh Mansour, who owns City, is the equivalent of me or you finding a £50 note stuffed down the sofa.

But why should they ride to the rescue? Is the ruining of a business their responsibility? No.

If it was, it would let clubs like the Shakers overspend in the knowledge it doesn’t have to mean the end.

There’s a reason United and City spend big – it’s because they can afford to.
